| Setting the strategic direction for the College as a self regulatory body is Council’s foremost responsibility. This five-year plan sets the roadmap for the future of the College and the profession and is the culmination of months of planning, engagement, review and collaboration between Council, staff, pharmacy professionals, patients, and stakeholders. Based on the four pillars, this strategic plan looks to the future of healthcare in New Brunswick and aligns with the Department of Health’s Stabilizing Health Care: An Urgent Call to Action plan. |

About the College
Our Mission: To protect and promote the health and well-being of New Brunswickers by regulating pharmacy practice
The New Brunswick College of Pharmacists was established by an Act of the Legislature of New Brunswick in 1884. This Act, which addresses the College’s role and responsibilities, was last updated in July, 2014.
The NB Pharmacy Act, 2014
The New Brunswick College of Pharmacists is governed by a Council made up of a president, president-elect, past-president, elected representatives covering the province as well as representatives from schools of pharmacy education and lay representatives appointed by the Government of New Brunswick.
The College governs and regulates the practice of pharmacy in New Brunswick by establishing:
- Code of Ethics
- Qualifications for licensure
- Standards of practice and requirements for:
- Pharmacists
- Pharmacy Technicians
- Pharmacies
- Continuous professional development requirements
- Criteria for collaborative practice with other health-care professionals

Council & Committees
Council
The New Brunswick College of Pharmacists is governed by a Council made up of a president, president-elect, past-president, elected representatives covering the province as well as representatives from schools of pharmacy and lay representatives, appointed by the Government of New Brunswick.
Council’s primary role is to ensure that the interests of the public are protected and maintained.
Council is the oversight and policy-making group for the College. The College’s administrative staff are responsible for carrying out these policies and administering the New Brunswick Pharmacy Act, 2014 and Regulations.

Committees
Council establishes committees required by the New Brunswick Pharmacy Act, 2014 and may also appoint standing and special committees. The majority of positions on our committees are filled by pharmacists and pharmacy technicians, and many committees also require representation from the public (i.e., Lay Representatives).
The following are the committees of the College:
Governance Committee
Ensures Council fulfills its legal and ethical responsibilities through governance policy development and evaluation.
Nominating Committee
Seeks and nominates qualified candidates for election to Council, and for appointment to committees. The criteria for application, and selection process, for student scholarships and bursaries provided by the College are also administered by this committee.
Finance Committee
Advises Council on financial-related matters such as budgets, internal controls, investments, staff compensation, and others.
Registration Committee
Oversees the development of registration requirements and related policies within the parameters of the Fair Registration Practices in Regulated Professions Act and associated regulations.
Continuous Professional Development Committee
Establishes and maintains requirements, processes, and educational frameworks that ensure pharmacy professionals continuously improve their skills and knowledge.
Complaints Committee
Considers complaints referred by the Administrator of Complaints or the Discipline and Fitness to Practice Committee in accordance with the New Brunswick Pharmacy Act, 2014.
Discipline & Fitness to Practice Committee
Hears allegations of professional misconduct, incompetence or incapacity of a pharmacy professional referred to it from the Registrar, the Administrator of Complaints, the Complaints Committee or Council in accordance with the New Brunswick Pharmacy Act, 2014.
Professional Practice Committee
Advises Council on pharmacy practice matters; upholds ethical, effective, and safe patient care in all recommendations.
